We used the form of a name tag as a great tool to learn some basic embroidery stitches. Many of the women have some past experience with embroidery which made the translation of "how to" that much easier while practicing English. The name tags also make it easier to remember each other's names, the best way to begin to talk with each other. At RISSE, when we all sit down at the stitching table together, there are at least five different native tongues in use in addition to English. Google translate is extremely helpful. This group has asked that I send them the list of words we use each week, so they can practice for our next meeting. Time to go do my homework....
